  Has lost some eminities but still a great place for a vacation. Wish they still had the restaurant and game room but what they do have is top rate. Views cannot be beat.

  As semi-frequent visitors to Port A (3-4 times a year), my husband and I have a few dog-friendly places we typically stay. With my older parents visiting from the Northeast, we splurged on a pricy, "beachfront" rental for this recent trip. How could we go wrong with such great photos and overwhelmingly stellar reviews? Imagine our disappointment to find instead of a "well appointed," "very clean," "beautiful" beach escape, a worn-out fraternity house that was to be our home for four nights. Upon arrival, I contacted the rental agent to alert her to the filthy dishes/glasses/everything in cupboards; uncleaned frig, freezer (frozen liquids/scattered ice) and appliances; dirty floors; ruined pots and pans piled haphazard in cabinets; dirty windows and surfaces throughout (including gross dining table); a wet rug left in laundry; ripped window screens, garbage piled at curb (the least of our concern). She responded with a sincere apology, letting me know that the previous renters were a group of men who trashed the place. I guess it's good that my mom and I found the cleaning products and went to work, since there was no offer of sending a housekeeping crew in for a few hours the next morning. The fun continued with faulty toilets and other discoveries, including a beer can and giant tumbleweeds of dust-dirt under the beds; and dog poop, rib bones and a lovely used condom in the yard. I totally get that renters are pigs, and this is a beach house, but this property is misrepresented. And, there is no excuse for shoddy cleaning at these prices. We have rented way more affordable (and dog-friendly) places in Port A that were nicely cleaned, albeit not "beachfront." I use quotation marks because another surprise is that you get only a partial view of the water (and portions of the beach) due to a pair of houses in front and to the right. The neighbors are REALLY close, too. So close that, unlike your obstructed view, they can see directly inside your bedrooms because THERE ARE NO DOOR BLINDS. Ditto, the second floor shower window. Surprise! In response to these issues, the rental agent told me that we would be reimbursed part of the $125 cleaning fee. Huh? They should send my mother payment for her work with the 409 bottle alone! We spent close to $1,500 for four nights in April and our recourse is "part" of a $125 cleaning fee? It's been two weeks and we have received neither a return phone call, nor our lousy partial cleaning fee refund. BEACHFRONT BS.

  Amazing staff and awesome location. Defiantly if you are ever in port A you have to vist this place and at least stay for two days. You won't forget the experience and memories you created at island retreat.

• Review of "Seaside Motel & Condominiums" at Port Aransas

  Went last week and it was perfect! Stayed for three nights, in the king room. It was simple, clean, and nice! it had everything we needed and the location of this place couldnt be more perfect. Walked to the beach each morning and they also have an outdoor pool that was the perfect temperature. Both ladies at the front desk that I saw were very nice. The room was clean and comfortable. The prices are great too!!! Definitely will come back here again.
